| From 1798 through 1968 the Springfield Armory built the small arms America’s soldiers carried to war. While still an Army general, George Washington proposed the Armory’s construction in Springfield, Massachusetts. For nearly two centuries thereafter, the Springfield Armory supplied weapons to our nation’s military. Now it’s America’s least known National Park and the largest collection of US Arms in the world.
